Default Anyone Falling for these devices

So I was walking around the Mall of America and was thinking about all the commercials I'v seen for all the stores im passing then stoped the Bose store and try out there stuff I'v seen on the tv...

First thing I tired was the Quite Comfort headset...
http://www.bose.com/controller?event...nes_index&ck=0
so I make sure its on with that little switch on the phone there, put it on and pushed start.
Some jazz starts playin and was wondering Im still hearing the people walk by (about 20ft from the door where the halls are) soI turned it up
then like 10 seconds later this lady comes over the music and asks me to lift up a phone and "hear" what I wasnt hearing while wearing the headset and was thinking Uh I'm still hearing them, and turned it up more just incase I dont have it loud enough

Well I still wasnt statisfied and I turned it up so much that it feels embarrasing to be listening to somthing that loud, and continued to listen, yet still I hear the hussle and bussle of the people outside.
(I dont mean outside music or people yelling, I mean just walking footsteps and murmuring voices)
I set them down on the rack and saw the 299$ price tag and thought about the quality of the sound I did listen to and it felt cheap, like regular cheap headphones you would get from a walkman.

Well maybe its a new technology so ill let it slide and wait a few years before they "perfect" it. like a xbox

Then I walked around some more and notice the wave front things I'v seen in years past commercials and turned on for a listen.

Changed the radio to Smooth Jazz (a radio channel i enjoy and know much about)
Man was I dissapointed, talk about a really choked wave length.
Contrarry to this...
Quote:
The Wave® music system reproduces one-half octave lower musical notes and delivers even greater clarity and definition than the original Wave® radio/CD. With its deeper tones and even more lifelike sound, you might just feel like you’re sitting in the front row.
Well then I looked around and saw one dissasembled in a glass cabinet and basicly I saw this...

Well after looking at it I laughed since I know a thing or two about the car audio field.
There trying to pull off two 4-5in speakers in a ported box; Port type a Snail Shell.
If you look at the picture it is made of plastic; a flimsy material that will vibrate with "deep low tones" and doubt you would even get "deep low tones" in the first place with such a low cone surface area that I bet doesn't even move mm's.

Oh and MSRP is 499$

Some car audio enthuisits probly know of snail shell enclosures
http://www.powered4sound.com/images/sslogo.gif
thats a picture of a snail shell enclosure.
http://www.powered4sound.com/
that is who makes snail shells for car audio

now I know theres a differance between a car amp and a plug from the wall.
But my 2nd hand ported speakers sound better in bass and treble from a 70w amp than that wave front...

Well if you want to hear words from others who have heard snail shells download a video from
http://www.powered4sound.com/media.html
I like the 6.5 videos the most...
http://www.powered4sound.com/p4s%20meets%20gately.wmv
and what the guy refurrs to as the "video"...
http://www.powered4sound.com/sixes.wmv

but I bet the wave front speakers themselfs cant handle over 25w...

Anyone else see thru these devices and laugh...

My grandma has a bose, and it's freakin awesome. I don't know if they changed the design, since hers is a few years old, but they're pretty nice.

Why spend 100+ dollars on headphones that can be gotten for next-to-nothing and block out more then BOSE, in my opinion? Because people want "Brand names they can trust" Personally, my 29 dollar headphones, with comfort ears and flex metal headgrip blocks out 60% more sound then BOSE.

It all goes back to the economics class and the evil "cycle of consumerism"

...Yup. People want brandnames, and aren't willing to go the cheaper route because the cheaper headphones didn't have a commercial, or weren't convincing...

As for the Xbox statment, I resent that! My Xbox was perfect the first time off the list, just because MS calls back the 360 doesn't make the full line horrible :P

Bose is overrated by far ...

I'm into high-end audio (Martin-Logan, Cello, Apogee Acoustics, Snell, Thiel, etc.) and know a bit about wave mechanics as well.

The Bose system makes it's mark on "reflected" sound. You need to place their drivers close to a wall - and the idea is that it turns part of the wall into a virtual driver ... lol.

#1. You're not going to reproduce true bass with 4-5inch drivers.
#2. Many people believe they're hearing real bass when actually they're hearing overinflated mid-bass - which sounds really crappy with many normal recordings
#3. Reflected sound is going to be distorted and muddled - there are variations in wall density and dynamic properties
#4. You need big drivers to produce true bass ... that's why church organs have pipes that are 32 feet long - because that's the length of a deep bass standing wave ... a 4 inch speaker isn't going to do much for you. High end subwoofers can be huge ... e.g. Wilson WAMM subwoofer is a 700 lb piece of equipment (if you don't mind the $150,000 ish price tag).
#5. Even if Bose isn't high-end ... it's still overpriced. For the same cost I would look at speakers from NHT, Magnepan, low-end Martin-Logan, PSB, AR and others. You get more for your money with them.

If you want to see a real Bose scam - just watch one of their home theater sales pitches for the satellite speaker system. They do a side-by-side demo, but what they don't tell you is that they're driving the competing speakers with crap and using a $10,000 amp to drive their cheap Bose speakers ... what a sham.

Bose ain't hi-fi ... I wouldn't even consider them mid-fi (e.g. B&O) - it's all hype.
